Volunteers needed for Colonial Day!!! We are short on costumes this year for Colonial Day and need some parents that know how to sew to help make our day a success! Colonial Day will be this July, but we want to give you plenty of time to work with. If you could help sew a few outfits, please let us know ASAP. All supplies will be provided.

Here you will find your weekly homework assignments, and the weekly classroom newsletter. On this website you can print out your reading log, get the week's vocabulary words, and any other homework pages that may be assigned.

Every week you are responsible for:
1. Completing the homework as explained on the classroom website. (This will always include the reading log and vocabulary pages.)
2. Coming to class with your stapled homework pages ready to turn in on Monday. You may not come to class and staple/assemble your homework. It must be done at home!!!
3. Being prepared for Monday's vocabulary test (knowing the spelling and definition of each word).

Homework for the REST of 5th GRADE!!!

As you know, you will not have traditional "homework" to turn in for the rest of the year. However, you must prepare for these two upcoming tests:

1. Social Studies Chapter 10 Test on Tuesday, July 12th. (You have a study guide to take home)
2. Final states & capitols test covering ALL states and capitols on Friday, July 15th.

Homework for the week of: Monday, June 27th (Due Tues. July 5th)

For this week you will do:
1.  Reading Log
2.  Vocabulary Assignment (Sentences & Definitions)
3.  Fourth of July Writing Assignment:  This coming Monday you will celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.  This important document declared independence from Great Britain.  What American freedoms will you celebrate on this day?  Why are you proud to be an American?  If you could thank those Americans who founded our country, what would you thank them for?

Homework for the week of June 21, 2011

For this week you will do:
1.  Reading Log
2.  Vocabulary Assignment (Definitions & Sentences)
3.  Writing Assignment:  5 Paragraph Essay.  Your thesis statement is:  "I am excited for summer break."  Then come up with three main ideas that support why you are excited for summer break.  Plan ahead and make sure you support each of your main ideas with smaller supporting details.  Use the directions from last week if you need a reminder of what goes in each paragraph.

Homework for the week of: Monday, June 13th

For this week you will do:

1.  Reading Log
2.  Vocabulary Assignment (Definitions & Sentences)
3.  Writing Assignment:  5 Paragraph Essay (directions below)

5 Paragraph Essay Directions:  You will write a 5 paragraph essay about either musicians or video games using the following thesis statement:  I have excellent taste in music/video games (Choose one).  


Pick three main ideas, one for each of your body paragraphs.  Introduce them in your introduction using this sentence:  Three of my favorite musicians/video games are:  __________, ___________, and _______.


Remember what is needed in each paragraph of the essay:

Introduction:  
1.  Hook the reader (example: ask a question)
2.  State your thesis
3.  Introduce main ideas of your 3 body paragraphs

Body Paragraphs (3):
1.  State the main idea
2.  Support with 2-3 details (2-3 reasons why each musician or video game is excellent)

Conclusion:
1.  Restate thesis in another way
2.  Restate important ideas

Homework for the week of Monday, May 16th

This week you will do:
1.  The Reading Log
2.  Vocabulary Assignment (sentences & definitions)
3.  Persuasive Paragraph:  Write one paragraph in which your goal is to persuade someone to do something .  Use the following persuasive techniques:  Flattery (compliments), Glittering Generalities (for example:  EVERYONE is doing it or has one), and promises.
4.  Finish your American Revolution project and bring it to school on May 20th.  Remember, you have had two months to complete this and it is one of your final projects of the fifth grade.  Make sure it is NEAT and has CORRECT SPELLING and GRAMMAR.  LABEL all pictures.
