An important reminder:  You must study and be prepared for the vocabulary test every FRIDAY!!! No exceptions; these are an important part of your learning and your grade!!!

For this week you will do:  the reading log, vocabulary assignment, and a writing/pronoun assignment.

Directions for the writing assignment:
1.  You are a colonist that just survived your first winter in North America.  Write a letter to a family member back in England describing what you have endured.  Describe your living conditions and your food supply.  Describe any contact you have had with the Indians.
2.  Include all necessary parts of a letter (date, greeting, body, closing, signature).
3.  Read back over your letter and highlight or underline all of the pronouns you used.
4. Attach your letter to your homework to turn in.

Monday, January 24th

I'm glad to see that many of you are liking the new website! Remember, even if you do not have a printer at home you can still turn in your homework! Simply create a reading log on your own paper. As long as it has all the same information on it, I will give you credit.

This week you will do: your reading log, vocabulary homework, and also a writing assignment. For the writing the assignment you are to write one paragraph on any topic you choose.

You will:

1. Plan your writing using a "bubble map" or "web". Put the main idea in the center circle and at least three supporting details in the outer circles.

2. Begin your paragraph with a main idea/topic sentence.

3. Support your main idea with at least three details. Each detail is at least one sentence. Use transitional words (first, next, lastly, most importantly, etc.) between your details.

4. Reread and check your writing for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors.

5. Attach your planning map and paragraph to your homework to turn in.

I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break!  I'm sure you are all rested and ready to make 2011 one of your best academic years yet!! 
This week, as it is our first week using our new website, all you are responsible for is the reading log and vocabulary assignment.  Be sure to have your homework ready and stapled to turn in next Monday the 24th!!
